Presented by ArtScapades
During the Harlem Renaissance of the early 20th century, the Harlem neighborhood in New York City became a Black cultural mecca and a social & artistic explosion resulted. We will look at three artists who were working at the height of this time: William H. Johnson, Romaire Bearden, and Jacob Lawrence. It was a literary, artistic, and intellectual movement that kindled a new black cultural identity, and encouraged a new appreciation of folk roots and culture.
This program will be hosted by the Yonkers Public Library and is presented in collaboration with the Greenburgh, Tuckahoe, Dobbs Ferry, and Pound Ridge Libraries.
