Ages 3 and Up

The library’s stuffed animals want to go on field trips! Check one out, bring them home, and add to their personal scrapbooks by writing about and taking pictures of the fun things you do together. When you’re at the library, you can visit the animals who have made it back to home base and see what they’ve been up to. Stuffed animals may be periodically rotated out based on condition.

Fill out a brief form and Alex, the teen librarian, will recommend titles for you! All you have to do is pick them up.

Ages 18-36 Months

Help your toddler find their breath and follow along as they flow through this little-kid-friendly practice with Pooja Mehta. The interactive yoga adventure will be having them move in a way that feels good and allows them to use their imagination as they stretch their body and calm their mind!

Kids ages 3 to 12 are eligible for our children’s summer reading game. This page will tell you everything you need to know about participating – Kids below the age of 3 are encouraged to sign up for our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten challenge.

Two Ways to Participate:
Track the Time You Spend Reading This Summer
1. Use our online log at ReadSquared to set a goal for yourself and earn prizes!
2. Sign up for an account at https://dobbsny03.readsquared.com/
3. Set a goal for how much you’d like to read. The minimum goal is 5 hours over the course of the summer.
4. Read! For every minute you read and log, you get 1 point.
5. (optional) Attend programs! For every program you attend and log, you get 75 points. See our calendar for the full list of programs.
6. For every 10% of your goal that you reach, you get a prize from the treasure chest! Readers who complete their goal will get a free book from our book sale at the end of the summer.

Enter the Choose Your Own Adventure Reading Challenge
1. Pick up or print a Choose Your Own Adventure Reading Map (link coming soon).
2. Follow a path on the map, reading a book of any format in each designated category as you travel across the island.
3. Earn an activity kit or toy by forging a path less than 15 spaces long; earn an extra free book for paths longer than 15 spaces.

The board is designed to expand your reading palate and encourage your appetite. Complete each row and get a prize! The boards will be available at the circulation desk and on the website. Keep track of the books you read, and the rewards are all yours!

Winning the lottery has ruined Opal Devlin’s life. After quitting her dead-end job where she’d earned minimum wage and even less respect, she’s bombarded by people knocking at her door for a handout the second they found out her bank account was overflowing with cash. And Opal can’t seem to stop saying yes.

With her tender heart thoroughly abused, Opal decides to protect herself by any means necessary, which to her translates to putting almost all her new money to buying a failing flower farm in Asheville, North Carolina to let the flowers live out their plant destiny while she uses the cabin on the property to start her painting business.

But her plans for isolation and self-preservation go hopelessly awry when an angry (albeit gorgeous) Pepper Boden is waiting for her at her new farm. Pepper states she’s the rightful owner of Thistle and Bloom Farms, and isn’t moving out. The unlikely pair strike up an agreement of co-habitation, and butt heads at every turn. Can these opposites both live out their dreams and plant roots? Or will their combustible arguing (and growing attraction) burn the whole place down?
