What is a Nook?
A Nook is the Barnes and Noble e-reader, which is an electronic device designed for reading digital books. Each one can hold an enormous numbers of e-books (electronic books.) Large print book readers will love the feature that adjusts font size to suit their needs. They are wireless, portable and easy to use.

The Friends of the Dobbs Ferry Public Library purchased the e-readers for circulation.

Who can borrow a Nook?
The Dobbs Ferry Public Library is pleased to offer Dobbs Ferry Library cardholders, who are over the age of 18, and in good standing the opportunity to borrow a Nook.

Do I have to download books myself?
Each Nook is pre-loaded with a selection of current and classic titles for your enjoyment. We welcome recommendations for additional titles; just fill out an E- Book Suggestion form available at the Library Circulation Desk for consideration. Please let us know what you think of the Nook.

Will I be charged to borrow a Nook, or if I return it late or damaged?
As with other library items, there is no charge to borrow but we charge fees for late, damaged, or lost e-readers. There is a $5.00 per day fine if the item is returned late or returned in the book drop or to another library (with a maximum being the replacement costs listed above). Replacement costs for lost or damaged items must be paid for at the time of return.

Replacement costs should the nook or any of its listed components be lost, stolen, or damaged during check out period are listed below:
- Nook e-book reader: $175.00
- Protective carrying Case: $ 35.00
- Battery Charger and cord: $ 35.00

Additionally, the borrower is responsible for returning Basic Instruction Sheet and the Contents List /Title List to the Circulation Desk in the Nook protective bag.

Please note that the Nooks do not come with headphones, but you may use your own.

How long can I keep the Nook?
Circulation is 21-days, with no renewal. You may only borrow our nooks 6 times in any 12-month period.

Can I reserve a Nook?
Yes, you may reserve a Nook at the Dobbs Ferry Libraryís Circulation Desk or online. You will be notified when one is available to come and pick-up. Also, since have a limited number of Nooks so be prepared that your name will likely go on the waitlist as it would for a hold.

Reserve a Nook Online
You may use this form to reserve one of our Nooks online.
Please note that you must be a Dobbs Ferry cardholder to place a Nook on hold.
Also, be aware that you may not reserve a Nook for specific dates.

Once you've submitted the form you will receive e-mail notification that your request has been processed within 1-5 days.
After your request has been processed you will receive a phone call when your Nook is available for pick up.
